Today's Workout and thought's for Mother's Day

I kept today pretty simple I ran an easy 1.5 miles with the wind and then turned around and ran 1.5 miles into the wind for a total of 3 miles.  Finished in 27:02 minutes. I hadn't planned on running today but it was too nice out not to!  I also picked up my race packet for the 5 mile run this weekend!!  Starting to get nervous already.  Everyone at work keeps asking me about it and every time I talk about it I get more and more butterflies in my stomach.  Does this happen to anyone else?
Today at work we had a speaker for nurses week.  Donna Wright RN, MSN was talking about the three importanat relationships that were important to maintain in order to be the best we could be.                 1. Relationship with patient and their family  2. Relationship with self  and 3. Relationship with our colleagues.  Her point was it is not just about the patient.  In order for us to be the best nurses we can  be we also need to take care of ourselves and our colleagues so we do not burn out and become embittered about the profession we choose to embrace. Caring for others can be a thankless job, especially in the OR where most of my patients are sleeping!  Patients are more worried about themselves (and rightfully so) then whether or not they thank their nurses.
I was thinking as I was running about how this can also apply to our family lives and the role of women as mother's . Being a mother is a very thankless role.  The kids take you for granted.  I think it is only when you are a parent that you realize all your parents sacrificed for you.   It is important to maintain and nurture our children, but we also need to take care of our relationships with our friends and family.  Of equal importance is the need to care for ourselves and take the time to do the things we enjoy like RUNNING! I know I am a better mother because I make the time for me to run.  I am so thankful for my strong body that takes me on so many runs!

  1. I get nervous right before the start too. I'm like a puppy, I think I peed 10 times before my half in Vienna and it started at 9!

  2. Thanks for visiting my blog Christy! Mothers are amazing--totally selfless. Running is such a nice reward as "me time"!

Good luck on your 5 miler!
