Pre half marathon thoughts

1. Get my stuff together and charged up, work on playlist.

2. Outfit picked out.  Nike top, Lululemon skirt, Saucony shoes, Gu gel and chomps.

3. Bib will be picked up in the morning

4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

5. Set some goals ..hm
  • Base Goal:  Beat last years time of 1:55 something or the other
  •  Maintain a pace of 8 to 8:15 and be under 1:45
  • Not going to say PR here, simply because of the heat.
6. check the weather forecast again, in hopes that it will be cooler than earlier forecast...

Nope, hasn't changed for the good, maybe gone up a degree or two, but I think this is cooler than it was last year.  Still for me this is friggin toasty.  A little cloud cover would be nice but looks like we are not going to get that either.  I know for a fact that we won't be getting any shade from trees.

Checking one more time... okay I should give up on this one.  It is going to be warm.  Hydrate hydrate hydrate! The expected high for the day is 93.  I know some of you out there are probably thinking this would be great running weather and that I am a wuss, well I am kind of.  It hasn't really been that hot here this summer until the last couple weeks and I have been trying to get acclimated.  It didn't help that I took the whole last week off to nurse my knee back to health.  I am going to quit whining now and go back to being happy that I get to run a half tomorrow and I don't have to sit at home!  YAY!

This will be half marathon #3 for me!

Anyone have any great playlist songs they want to suggest?   I am planning on not listening to anything for the first three miles or so and then turn it one when I start into the uphill section.   Not that there is a whole lot of elevation change, only 250 ish. i just though this would be a good time to kick it on.

Trying to decide if I should take my hand held water bottle and SPI belt or use my fuel belt with the two water bottles on back.  I think I will go with the fuel belt I like to have my hands free, although I like my SPI belt better for my energy gels.  I wouldn't worry about either, but it is going to be so HOT,  I don't want to get dehydrated and last year there were not very many water stations if I remember right.

As far as songs, not sure what kind of music you like, but my guilty pleasure is that song "hello" by martin solveig and the dragonettes. Its super cheesy but has a good beat to run to. I can't wait to hear how #3 goes!!

    12. I have to say I'm jealous of that weather! I love the outfit too. Choosing a playlist is KEY - I love Lose Yourself by Eminem, I start lots of races with it. Don't Stop Believing and Living on a Prayer are two of my all time favorites too. I have the exact same handheld in the same color! You'll rock the race - good luck!

    15. I would definitely run with the fuel belt!! In my last race it was hot and I ran with my handheld. I regretted it the entire race. I like the feeling of my hands being free. Good Luck!! You will do great!!
