A Love Affair

I am hopelessly in love with running skirts. I got my first
one last summer and wore it a lot for training, but felt a little self concious about wearing it for a race.  My line of though there was what serious runner really wears a skirt for a race?  Not many people in Billings did.  I finally gave in and wore it to the last race I did last year.  Loved it.  Fast forward I now own 6 running skirts and am always looking for more! I saw a statistic that one in three women now own a running skirt.  I also saw some women hate them because they feel the skirts are a throwback to the days when women were forced to wear them for modesty.  Anyone have any strong opinions about this?

Right now I am eyeballing these two really cute ones from Lululemon.  The first one is a lot like the one I already own in two colors black and turquiose, but the back is a little different, it was a double row of ruffly pleats instead of a single row.

The other skirt is this one.  I wasn't sure I liked it until I saw it on a friend of mine at a race last weekend, super cute in action.  Which one do you guys think is cuter?  Does anyone own either of these and have anything good or bad to say about them?  I don't live near a Lululemon store so I have to go by looks and others reviews. In the end I probably won't get either one, but I really am in love with running skirts!

Yesterday I ran a two mile warm up and threw in 4 x 400's with a two mile easy cool down.  My legs are pretty tight from last weekend still, so I have been hitting the foam roller pretty hard and hope they loosen up soon for the 5 mile race I have Saturday, which I will be wearing a skirt for. :)

How do you talk yourself out of buying something you want but don't really need?
I have to sit back and take inventory of what I already have and balance the checkbook.  The old checkbook is the biggest deciding factor.  I bet I will add more running skirts to my inventory, but just not today!

What do you like about skirts or shorts over the other?
I like that skirts are not really the norm and they feel feminine and fun. My little girl has really helped my embrace that sort of thing, before I had her I always turned up my nose at that sort of thing.  Now I can't get enough! They are also comfy and cool to wear.

Okay off to work for this girl, have a great day everyone!

  1. I love them. I can't find any with a long enough inseam in the shorts to wear right now, since my thighs rub together. So, these days I run exclusively in capris.

  2. Skirts are my favorite!! Love them! :0)
I've heard that the one with ruffles on it isn't flattering on people with larger booty's but I've never tried it on myself! They are both super cute! :0)

  3. So I really can't talk myself out of it. I total give in lol. As per the skirts, I bought one from north face, it kindnofmsucked but I am being convinced to give it a second go. It is funny because I love my ninth face running shorts

  4. i LOVE skirts. i wear them exclusively. i cant handle shorts, they always end up wadded up in my crotch! but there are bad skirts as well, i prefer ones with briefs underneath not ones with teeny tiny boy shorts. i really like that last skirt. if i want something that i dont need, i just work a couple extra hours to justify it. :)

  5. As a girl with self described tree trunk legs running skirts are a gift from God!! I hate wearing shorts even in my real life. I think I own maybe two pairs! All I wear are skirts!!!!

  6. I don't wear a skirt to run. It kind of reminds me of womens lacrosse and field hockey. I can't really get behind a sport that requires women to wear skirts. Plus, I rarely wear them in everyday life, so it'd be weird to wear them while I run.

  7. I haven't tried many skirts but the one I have has the boy shorts underneath and they climb up and then my thighs rub together. ick. A. that is a gross feeling. B. why do my thighs rub together? I'm not overweight. ugh.

Anyhoo--I like the second one the best! :)

  8. I held off on buying a running skirt for a long time - just recently gave in and I'm so glad I did! Love them!! So much more comfortable than running shorts. My fave is one I got from Brooks - raced in it 2 wks ago and have to buy another one!

BTW - I really like the 2nd skirt. Let us know which one you get!

  9. I have the first one and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! I think it's really flattering on me and I think it would look great on YOU!!! I've seen the second one and it's a flimsier material but still really nice! I wear mine to play tennis all the time and love it.

  10. I love both skirts! I've been eyeing both of them on the Lululemon site for a while now but I can't make myself pay their expensive prices. Are they really THAT great that I need to spend $60? I suck at talking myself out of things I don't need. Just this week I ordered a new pair of running shoes because I could get them for $65 even though the mileage on my current pair isn't that bad yet. I'm hopeless!

  11. I have one running skirt and I don't really have strong feelings about it. I feel like I should be playing tennis, that's my main takeaway.

  12. Love running skirts! I started wearing them after my first marathon because I chaffed like crazy and prefer a skirt over just spandex anyday. Both of them are adorable and I don't think you could go wrong.

  14. I bought my first running skirt by accident off a clearance rack thinking I was just grabbing another pair of shorts &am so glad I did! I LOVE them! I have 4 now and only run in shorts if I have a laundry emergency these days! Pick up a couple hours of OT and treat yourself...you deserve it! :)

  15. I definitely like them both...skirts are the best when you don't have time to go home and shower/change! But I always race in shorts and do track in shorts. Just seems more practical, for some reason!

  16. I have one skirt and love it. I feel the same way you did...self conscious to wear it to a race.
I take forever making purchases and I've been burned a few times by waiting too long and the item is gone. :-(

  17. I love skirts and only wear them because shorts seem to make me look like bubble butt and they ride up in the crotch.

My vote is for number 2 -- looks like it would be a bit easier to run in and #1 does have the potential to make a behind look larger than it is and who really wants that.

  18. I have the top Lulu skirt. I love it for distances up to 10 miles but the grippers on the compression shorts underneath can get a little funky on my legs after that. LOVE the style though and get tons of compliments when I race in it.
I saw the 2nd Lulu skirt at the store and it looked weird on the hanger but wow so cute in that pic!
I love running skirts and find I almost always wear them for races. They make me feel extra special--like I dressed for the occasion.

  19. I think the second ruffled skirt is cuter than the first.

I bought 2 skirts this year. Both black. One has shorts attached, the other doesn't. I love them both - I love skirts because they are different.

Actually, I think the skirt you are posing in, is nicer than either of those 2 ruffled skirts.

I like to see women doing sports and playing games in skirts because we CAN not because we HAVE to. Love to see femaler curlers and golfers and tennis players in skirts!

  20. I have the 1 layer ruffled skirt that you have. It was my first. I looked at the 2nd skirt last time I was in Lululemon and didn't love it (though I didn't try it on- and mostly I just don't want to buy more summer running gear- bring on the cooler temps already). I bought my first runningskirts.com skirt the other day (it was on sale- couldn't resist) and wore it today. I think I like it. All of my other skirts are black so it's nice to have some color.

  21. I love the second skirt! I have a Lululemon skirt that I get lots of compliments on. I own a few other skirts too and I absolutely love them. I feel fast in them for some reason. And they are more flattering than tempo shorts.
I think it's definetly becoming more normal for women to wear running skirts. I still get looks sometimes but I don't think they are bad looks just curious :)

  22. I have one Nike running skirt and I love it. I prefer the skirt in the second set of pictures. I like the diagonal slants.
