Quite possibly my worst racing pictures

These are from the Turkey Trot I did on Thanksgiving.  I think they are both from the street mile race.
Pretty sure that in the first one here I may have been fighting the dry heaves.
and I look like I want to vomit in this one too.

I guess I can be consoled by winning the street mile if my pictures have to look so freaking awful. It is hard to smile when you think at any second you just might hurl.

Yesterday was a super awesome day outside and I had hours to get in my run so I extended my 11 mile run into an impromptu half marathon.  It was so nice out, I feel like I have to take advantage of those kinds of days this time of year when at any time we could be plunged into below zero temps for a week.

My favorite way to eat my oatmeal lately has been to put chia seeds, chopped almonds, chopped whole dates, and cinnamon into it.  I found some yummy steel cut Irish oats at Costco.  I can't believe I haven't bought steel cut oats before  They are so much better! They take a little longer to cook up, but it is so worth it!

Seriously so good.  Between the dates, cinnamon, almonds, chia seeds, and oatmeal there are lots of yummy flavors and textures going on. Like a party in your mouth.

Are you an oatmeal eater?  What is your favorite way to eat oatmeal right now?

  1. Hey, when you're trying your hardest, you don't have time to be all smiley! You were on a mission! You still look great, though.

I use oatmeal out of the packet sometimes, and I put hardly ANY water in it so it is almost chewable. I do the same with grits. But I don't really eat it that much.

  2. Speaking of chia...I'm not eating as much anymore if you want some of mine. LOVE the pictures, that's about how I remember it while we were screaming that you were getting passed (by the chickie who had the slower chip time!).

  3. I LOVE steel cut oats! Usually eat mine with cinnamon, maple syrup, blueberries and banana - yum!!

  4. They need to just have a pretend finish picture station where you can get the shot you want and leave those rotten ones a distant memory.

  5. You ate so cute!! Miss reading your blog. I eat oatmeal every day. I put raw honey and cinnamon. Raisins if I have them. Good way to get in complex carbs to start my day:)

  6. If you still look glamorous when you're running, you probably aren't trying hard enough. ;) I think the pics are fantastic!

PS - My oatmeal addiction right now: oats, oat bran, sliced banana, peanut butter, and a little cinnamon. Perfection in a bowl! (After Thanksgiving my oatmeal choice was cranberry, pear, and pecan. Mmm...)

  7. I honestly don't think that I've ever taken a good race picture! I need to try steel cut oats - your bfast sounds yummy.

  8. I would take some bad race photos if it meant winning the street mile too, that's awesome!
I love oatmeal, and eat it every day with crunchy peanut butter and chocolate protein powder.

  9. I don't think your pics are that bad. I never like my race pics. I don't do oatmeal and I wish I could. I just can't get past the texture. Awesome job on the impromptu half!

  10. The bad race photos are not that bad, and at least you know they were pictures of you kicking butt!
I love oatmeal! My girls do too, and while the steel cut oats are my favorite they won't eat them! So, I settle for old fashioned oats. I make mine into Elvis oatmeal (my name) usually, peanut butter and banana chips, so yummy!! I really need to get on the chia seeds boat, everyone talks about them and how good they are for you...

  11. It looks like you are woking hard. I don't think they are bad at all! I love steel cut oatmeal. But I don't make it as often because it does take so much longer. It is worth it though because it taste better and is better for you!

  12. You look FIERCE in your photos, love it!!!! That means you were pushing it, which is the ultimate type of race.

  14. Love the pictures!!! Too funny! I love oatmeal but I'm stuck in a pb and protein powder rut...maybe I'll have to try some new mix ins!

  15. I eat oatmeal, but not steel cut oats.

I like all kinds of things but not all at the same time... protein powder, pb or almond butter, grated carrots with raisins and cinnamon, pb&jam, chocolate chips, flax meal, chia seeds, hemp seeds... this list could go on forever.

  16. I actually think you just look intensely focused and bad-ass in that first photo! Glad you are having some better weather!

  17. When you are trying to win, you have to remember your facial expression might reflect that.
I love oatmeal, but oatmeal doesnt like me. I tend to get all gased up when I eat it. I do love chia seeds though. I put them in my yogurt.
Glad you got out for a great long run girl.

  18. They aren't that bad! I've definitely seen worse- it just means you were working HARD!
I never really liked oatmeal until I tried steel cut! Definitely take a little more time, but worth it! I keep it simple with a little cinnamon- but I'm going to try some almonds. That sounds really yummy!

  20. Here's a contest idea: we could put my horrible photos from the Rock Canyon Half and yours from your Turkey Trot up in a which-are-worse contest. Or maybe not....I'd definitely "win" that one. I think you just look hardcore, whereas I look like I was going to hurl even though I actually felt OK!

I love steel-cut oats too, but I'm much too lazy to make them most mornings.

  21. Never had steel-cut oats, I'll have to try them out. Definitely seen worse race pictures, you just look hardcore!

  22. I like your "bad" photos. If you looked too good during those races then I would think you could have gone harder. You look like a serious athlete :)

Steel cut oats are yummy. I like them with dried cherries and some brown sugar.

  23. Ok I've got WAY WORSE pics than that!!! Just sayin

  24. I just made the change over to Steel Cut Oats as well and I love them!! Race photos are always crazy looking!! They seem to catch us at our worst moments when we are making the weirdest faces or movements!

  25. I'm not normally an oatmeal eater, something about the texture! I know I'm missing out but I keep trying!

I think the harder you run, the worse the pics get, at least that's what I tell myself! :)

  26. You wanna know my fav way to eat oatmeal right now? I eat the much less healthy kind - instant and sugary. My fav right now is apple cinnamon and i eat it dry. You get to take more bites that way! ;-) I've eaten it that was since i was little and things i have learned: don't sneeze or sit in front of a fan! (two things that caused a dry oatmeal mess!) runner_girl5k at yahoo dot com
