Chicken Soup for the Soul

To say that yesterday was beautiful out would be a major understatement.  The sun was shining, there was a slight breeze and it was 58 degrees out on the  5th of January.  Days like this make winter so much more bearable.  I know we can pretty much still have winter until June (this is Montana), but days like this rejuvenate the soul.

I think Cola thought so too.
We took a few short breaks to enjoy the view and soak in the deep blue sky. He is such a great running buddy!

I wore my new Lululemon running skirt again.  I am so in love with.  I wish I would have worn a short sleeve shirt, but I didn't.  I got a little warm when I was running with the wind, but when I turned around to run into the wind it wasn't bad.

I whined about my right knee area hurting yesterday.  It did give me some twinges, but nothing really horrible, and it was way too freaking nice to be in the house not running. I hope I didn't go too far, I meant to only run 5 or 6 miles if my leg felt all right.  I was going to throw in the towel if it started hurting.

I ran 11.12 miles.

I kept the pace super easy and stayed right around 9 minute miles. I had to make myself go back.  It was so nice out. I can rest tomorrow.

I was going to run the cow trails in the hills, but then decided I better stick to the road so I didn't aggravate my leg any more than already was.
This route is my favorite.  Scenic.  Beautiful.  Wide open spaces.

I have been using my new running journal that my mom got me for my birthday.
I still use daily mile, but I find it fun to fill in the journal before I go to bed at night.

Do you run sometimes when you know you should probably be resting?

What is chicken soup for your soul?

My chicken soup is getting outdoors in any capacity at all. Restores my soul!

  6. I love the photo of cola.. Heck I love all the photos of the scenery!

Right now , the chicken soup for my running soul is having good workouts, pain free and not having to jump to the cycle after 2 miles of running.

  7. Running is completely my chicken soup! Without a doubt. I try, really hard, to not run when I know I shouldn't. With my injury history, I have to be smart (but am not always). Why are we like that?!

  8. Yes! Definitely struggle to rest when I should. But you're obviously not hurting too bad if you could get that kind of distance in. :) I also love journalling my running log by hand before bed! Online tools are great, but there's something about writing it out that I love.

  11. If I feel the need to run I just get out there and do a short one at a slow pace through the park and stop to let the dog sniff and stuff...always makes me feel better! Exercise including running is definitely the best thing for my soul!

  12. Wow, those pictures take my breath away! No wonder you went for 11 instead of 5. As usual it's rainy and cold here:( but I guess I could just visualize your pictures while I run in the rain:)

  14. Don't you hate it when you wear the wrong gear? I do that often. I try to go with the 20 degree rule, but I still miss the mark sometimes. It can make for a miserable run if you're too hot or cold. lol Hope your knee feels better. :)

  19. Short term chicken soup = a cup of tea or a hot bath

Long term chicken soup = I'm not sure - sometimes it's outdoor activities, sometimes it's friends, ...

My wall of motivation is right outside my bedroom in the hallway so I see it everday, I've had it up for a while now but just updated it with some new quotes and such so I hope it helps to keep me motivated this year.
