Eye candy!

I went to my local running store last week to find a balaclava to run in the subzero temps in, I called ahead while I was at work to make sure they had one, they didn't but they did have a neck warmer that can be pulled up over your mouth and nose and is vented.  I asked them to set it aside and as soon as I got off work I headed over to pick it up.

Well you know how hard it is to go into a store full of things you want to buy and not at least look the running shoes, (or whatever) right?  With the racing season set to kick off here in Montana in 8 weeks I am starting to think about some shoes for racing.  So I wandered over to the wall of shoes, but I have to admit, I already was drawn towards the Brooks Pure Project shoes.  So pretty.

I have been loving the Pure Connects since they first came out, at least in the pictures.  They look fast.
and they came out with this awesome color combination recently too.

The guy at the running store steered me more toward the Pure Flow and the

 Pure Cadence instead.

They both felt pretty good on my feet, but I went with the Pure Flows since I liked the way they felt on while running on the treadmill better, plus they are about .8 ounces lighter.  They are a bit of a change from what I have been running in since the heel drop in these is only 4mm vs the 12 in the shoes I have been running in.

I wore them to work one day just to get a feel for them. I have to admit it felt a little weird at first, almost like my toes were higher than my heels.  By the end of the day it felt natural and I no longer thought about it.

I have ran in them twice now.  Once for 2.5 miles and once for 2 miles.  and then I switch out and do the rest of my run in my other shoes.  I love the way it really promotes the mid foot strike and feels so natural!

I had never run in Brooks shoes until late last November I had the chance to wear test a pair of Brooks shoes and I it made me a fan.  Unfortunately I had already purchased the Asics Kayano 18s also.  I love them too but I love the Brooks shoes more.

I might have to get the Pure Flows in this color combo next.  I am thinking I may just switch over to running in these all the time if I do really like them.
Have you tried the Pure Project shoes?
If you have tell me what you think.
If you haven't tell me if they do or do not appeal to you.

  1. I am a huge pronator and need a lot of support in my arch so I am just not sure if the Pure Project shoes would be right for me, sadly! I would love a minimalist shoe but I just haven't looked into them much because of my gait.

  2. My Pure Connects are on the truck out for delivery as I write this! I originally ordered the purple ones, but they were on backorder for a month from the site where I get my shoes. I got tired of waiting and switched to the aqua ones and they gave me 25% off! I can't wait to try them out!

  4. I love my Brooks Adrenaline but haven't looked at those yet. I have another pair of minimalist shoes by Merrell that I love, but I might try a new pair once they are done-zo :)

  5. My friend Michael, she runs in Brooks. Tons of my friends run in Brooks but I've always used Asics. Anyway, she told me that she got a pair of the Pure line and that I should try it out. I went to the store and ran in three different kinds. I liked them but just "liked". To me it felt like there was a hump in the middle for some reason. They were comfy but not amazing. I LOVE the look of them! LOVE! I still might get a pair for the occasional run and see how it goes.

  8. Those are so pretty. I wouldn't want to run in them because I wouldn't want to get them dirty:) I have never tried a minimalist since I overpronate and have foot issues.

  9. Can't wait to try some flows. :) The Candence shoes are nice but they were too tight on the top of my foot and now my foot hurts. I just needed to loosen them up a bit.

  10. I've heard/read a lot of good things about those shoes. I'd love to try them - unforunately the local running stores in Boulder don't carry size 5 and if they order them for me I feel obligated to buy.

I've been running for ~4 months now and already have 4 pair of running shoes - I probably should wear a couple of pair out before I buy more...but I'll put these on the list!

  11. I have one of those neck warmers, and they are a total blessing! I don't have to wear it here in Washington, but it was a MUST for running in the sub 0 temps of Cincinnati.

  12. I have not worn Brooks shoes before but am wanting to try out the Pure Project line. I currently wear Saucony Kinvara's which I do love but wouldn't mind a different shoe to rotate.

  13. I love, love, love the Brooks Pureflows! I have always loved and run in Brooks (even before they sponsored me) and the Pureflows are my very favorite. I am a mild pronator but have had no issues in these at all. I started running in them in late September 2011, and have since put over 300 miles on two pairs, have three pairs in rotation, and two new pairs waiting in boxes. :) I do all of my training and racing in them. They are light and fast enough to race a 5K in, but have enough support for 20+ mile runs. They have done great in snow and ice (I don't use Yaktrax because I feel like they change my running gait) and they are great on dirt, pavement, treadmill, etc. Here is the detailed review I did on my blog about the Pureflows. LOVE the new colors too. :)

  16. I REALLY want to try the new Brooks Pure shoes! But I'm also sticking to what is working right now. :-) Costco has a balaclava for about $10, not sure if it's good for running or not as we don't really need that much protection in Seattle, but it might be worth a try! Or it might be sold out by now!

  17. Fun, fun they are adorable and sound great! I wish I wasn't such a cheapscape and willing to pay no more than $50 for a pair of shoes because these seem really great.

You will have to keep us all updated on how you like them. :)

  25. Not a fan of the color, but I have only heard good things about Brook shoes. I am currently running in Saucony Cortana. I am loving this shoe it has 4mm heel to toe and the little extra cushion I need for my forefoot.

  31. I've been eyeing them -- I'm really struggling to fine 'my' shoe. Why did they steer you away from the Connect?

  32. I did try on a pair, but they did not feel quite wide enough for me. I did, however, just get a pair of Mizuno Wave Universe 4's that I love (4mm drop, about 4.?oz-felt great). I run in Brooks Green Silence as well and love them!!

  33. That just happened to me the other day when I went into one of those stores for just one little thing. I kept the shopping under control but I'd love to try the Brooks someday. Oh and I think I'm supposed to tell you that you've been tagged. :)
