Monday Motivation

Yesterday I wasn't real sure how my run was going to go.  I had leftover birthday cake for breakfast and was feeling a little like I shouldn't have ate that before a run so I ate a cupcake to top it off.  (What?  I never claimed to be a healthy eating blog just a running blog. Haven't you ever had cake and a cupcake for a pre long run fueling breakfast?)

I decided I would do 10 or 11 miles and hope for the best. I started out slow and not feeling like this was going to be a great run but could manage it okay.  4 miles in I ate a GU, drank a bunch of Nuun and turned around so I could switch shoes for the last couple of miles.  I am still breaking in the Pure Flows and really wanted to run in them today.

After mile 4 I noticed I just felt awesome.  My legs felt good and my breathing was steady and even. I was doing really good holding just under 9 min/mile pace for my long run.  I am really working on doing my long runs slow ans steady, instead of trying to rush through them.

About mile 6 I kicked it up a little since I was feeling so good and McMillan says to keep it between 8:22 and 9:22 for my fast runs so I did miles 6 and 7 at 8:30ish pace.  And it felt so good.  I felt so good.  I switched my shoes at 8 miles and headed back out.  I was only going to do another 3 or 4, but decided it was too nice of a day out and I was feeling so good I went ahead and did another 6 for a total of 14 miles for my long run.

It was one of those runs where I couldn't help but love the feel of the air on my face, the sunshine and how good it felt to run.  The last 7 miles of the run were not as slow as they should have been and averaged close to 8 min/miles with 2 of them faster than that.

I found this quote yesterday and had to share, because it is so true!

I am going to remember how good this run felt while I am sitting in jury selection this afternoon.  I  may not get to run today, but at least I had a totally awesome I love to run type of run yesterday :) My clothes and shoes are in the car though so if I can out of there early I may be sneaking in a couple of recovery type miles.  One can dream!

Have you ever served on a jury?  I never have and am hoping I don't get picked this time, finger crossed!

What is motivating you today?

  2. I came very close in the jury selection process last fall. Thankfully I was dismissed, although everyone I know who has been on a jury enjoyed the experience.
Today a gym class filled with 5 and 6-year olds motivates me!

  3. wow jury selection.....argh! I'd hate that. I have never been summoned :P and love that quote and photo :) ....and I eat cupcakes more than any runner should. I don't think you have to be 100% healthy to be active. Isn't that why we're active ;)

I run to eat cupcakes. FACT.

I need motivation today not to run but to go to work. Sigh. It was a fun weekend and I'm not looking forward to the return to the routine....

  9. I have eaten cake, cupcakes, cookies, etc... before a run. I'm not proud of it but I didn't die so it can;t be all that bad. :-)
I love reading about good runs.
Good luck with jury duty. Yuck.

  15. Mmmm- cupcakes! I have totally fueled with cake before... and donuts. I think it works out nicely.
Awesome job on your run- I love when a run turns out so great!
Good luck with the jury duty. I have been summoned a couple of times but I was always pregnant and got out of it (that's what being pregnant for 6 years straight does for ya.).

  16. I'm jealous... I love those it-feels-amazing runs! Last week was like that, but this weekend I was stuck on a treadmill due to thunderstorms, and it wasn't so fun. Those runs come. I served on a jury once in Philly, thankfully it was a short one-day-trial thing. Hope you get out quickly!

  18. I've been called for jury duty 2x and picked once. I have to say ... being picked was an amazing experience. The case ended up lasting two days and we spent about three hours deliberating as a jury. The judge was probably a big part of what made it such a great experience. He spent time with us after we gave the verdict to talk to us about the case and educating us on the process. He also told us that he thought we made the right decision based upon the information as it was presented and he explained why some information was given to us and other pieces were withheld. It was definitely an amazing experience!

  19. Sounds like a perfect run! I love those easy running days! I've never been selected for a jury, I've always been excused. I have a summons for later this month and I'm hoping to end up getting exused again.

  21. I am so wanting to get back to those kind of runs. It has been hard to start back up again and actually reading this was very motivating. I want to be back there.

No jury selection for me and I hope my streak keeps up! Hope you don't get picked!

    Sounds like a fabulous run.
Are you a overpronator or what? I was just shoe shopping online and was wondering what other stuff I could wear beside Brooks Adrenaline.
