Race Pictures!

They finally posted the race pictures from the Peaks to Prairie Adventure race I did last weekend.  I think mine turned out pretty good.  I loved this race and I loved the distance.  I can't wait to do it again next year.

I think I was the only runner wearing a hydration belt for it, but I am glad I had it on, there were no water stops along the way and I am so used to wearing it, I hardly realize I have it on.  Plus about mile 4 when I ate my Gu and washed it down with Nuun was about the time that the girl running next to me started falling back and now the  girl that was pushing me was now staring at my back.  I had to wonder if she was wishing for a drink of my Nuun.
wow, how great does my form not look in this picture!  I think this was on one of the up hill portions.
I have been killing the mileage lately, check out March and April.  Highest months of mileage ever.

I have to confess I am feeling really good and strong and I have 68 days until my marathon.  It seems so far away and so close!  This week will be a scale back back with reduced mileage my long run last week was 22 miles and this week will be between 12 and 14.

I keep thinking I should be looking forward to a reduced week, but for some strange reason I am wishing for a 20 miler.   I am going to be good though, I know it is good to have a reduced mileage week and I am determined to not get an injury before my first marathon!

Do you bring your own hydration for races, and if so what distance do you start bringing it for.  I wouldn't bring it for a 10k or shorter, but I was glad I had it for this 9.3 mile race.  Just curious!

Speaking of hydration, I do have a mystery hydration carrier giveaway going on HERE.  See if you can guess what it is and enter to win!

  1. Like you, I would bring my own water for 15K+ if it's a hot day! Can't hurt!! Great race pics--love that running skirt! Too cute!

  2. Even a 10k I think I would bring my handheld. I had one experience when I was so thirsty my whole run and it was terrible. It doesn't bother me so I guess anything 10K and over.

  3. NIce race pics! That's awesome that you're feeling great and strong!

I usually don't carry hydration with me, unless I'm running more than a half marathon distance. I carry a hydration pack for longer runs. I'm not a big drinker. During my half this weekend, I only grabbed a sip of water at the 11 mile mark.

  4. I'm curious to see how people respond-- I always run with my hydration belt (now that i've finally gotten used to it!) but I never bring it to races, and I know that will be a question of mine for my first marathon :)

PS I really like that top!

  6. You look really strong out there! I always carry my own hydration. There have been to many times when the water stations were too crowded or they just were not there when I needed them most. I wear my belt all of the time to carry my phone and other junk so I am used to wearing it and it does not bother me at all. I can't wait to hear about your marathon! Good job on getting those miles in!!

  7. I love the skirt too! I have the same one but I have not had the chance to wear it yet with this injury!! Looks really cute on you!!

  8. You look awesome, Christy! Strong and fierce! I hate carrying water which is why I love races with water stops... if there were none I would totally suck it up and slap on the belt though. I am totally running Missoula next year. I HAVE TO!

  9. You look awesome!!! What great pics! I usually carry water for races longer than a 10k. I am so bad and coordinating the cups at the water station...I end up either skipping it or getting water all over me! For my really long races I just have them fill up my bottle when it gets low. LOVE the skirt!!

  10. Awesome race pictures! I never regret carrying my own water either!

  11. You look great in your pictures! Good luck over the next 68 days of training!

  12. You are so fit girl, and you look super strong in these pics! No hydration belt for me. Here in the city there are water fountains that are on for most of the year on the lakefront path, with is 26 miles long, about every half mile. In the winter I have secret water fountains that I go to so that I never have to wear a belt, but who knows what I'll ever do if I leave the city!

  13. I have never run with a belt, mostly because I hate them. I'm thinking about revisiting that though - I'm wondering if I'd hate it as much now that I've lost a few pounds. I do have a handheld, almost always.

What GREAT race photos! You look so strong!

  14. Ya know, I've always carried water / Nuun with me, but I decided when I do MAJOR races that I wouldn't because there are so many water tables to drink from. It ended up being a mistake this past weekend. Ran out of water. :( I think if it doesn't bother you that you should!

  15. Love the pics, Christy.

Yes, carrying water/fuel is a good idea - especially when none is supplied and anything over 5 km I think.

Did you decide not to use Rafflecopter for your giveaway on yesterday's post?

  16. Impressive miles!! I take fluids if it's particularly hot (or I run loops by my house where I can grab water), but typically if I'm racing I bring it with me after 10 miles since you never really know what a course is going to give you.

  17. Great pictures!! I love your racing outfit :D

I carry water with me on any training runs longer than 5-ish miles. I carry it on races over 10K (exception being Disney races!). I don't ever want to be racing and stressed out about when my next hydration point is going to be.

  18. Your race pictures look great - really love the skirt!! I have the same fuel belt - I have a question for you. Does your back ever feel bruised after wearing it? I noticed after a long run that I had a tender spot. I want to wear it for my ultra because it is very comfortable and I am going to need it. Any suggestions?

  19. Great pics! I don't carry water, but I probably should. I just saw the pictures from my half on Sunday and there is only one of me! Lame! My legs look great but I have a really dumb look on my face. Aargh!

  22. Great pictures! I wish I could pull off a Lululemon skirt but they just don't work for me. I always run with hydration once the race is longer than a 10k. Better safe than sorry.

  23. As a new runner, I was wondering what type of hydration belt you are wearing??

I haven't done much distance yet, but I think I would need to bring some water.

  24. You look great!!!! Love your shirt and, of course, the skirt rocks!!! I haven't ever brought a hydration belt for a race, but I have been considering it more and more recently.

  25. Beautiful pictures! After the 5K in December with no water stations I carry something to drink for all of my races of any length. I'd rather carry it and not need it than need it and not have it.

  26. Great pics and love the skirt!!
Those are some awesome mileage months you have going on!!

  27. You look stylish and lean (and you know I love black!). :^)

Those are some killer miles. I kind of wish your marathon were next week. :^)

  28. Your race pictures look great! Are you sure you're not a fitness model? :) I always carry my handheld, even for short runs. It's like my addiction. I've thought about a hydration belt, but I carry my ipod in a waist pouch, so that wouldn't really be an option.

  29. Such awesome pictures Christy! I love them. I so incredibly impressed with your mileage...I think you are going about marathon training perfectly and I am so incredibly excited for you.

I haven't ever raced with a hydration belt but at Boston my friend that ran with me had one and it was SO NICE to not be held up at aid stations.

  30. I love these - I think I said it with your after photo but you look like an 80's rockstar and I'm a HUGE FAN :)

and I am so dang excited for your marathon!!!!!!!!

  31. Great race pics and WOW you mileage each month is amazing! I'm just working to make my 50 mile goal every month...hopefully one day I will make it into the 100's.

  32. I take my hand held water bottle with me for any distance, even just a one mile race. My mouth gets so dry so quickly after the start of the race, I have to bring it with me always!

    Great pics of your race!

  33. I love your pictures!!!! looking good!!!
I carry water for 10k and up. It is so hot here and I get dehydrated easily. I have a belt but now I use hand held bottle and I like it

  34. Love your race outfit and photos!!! & the mileage....holy rockstar!

  35. awesome pics, love the skirt!!

  36. Your pics look really good! I carry water almost everywhere. If I am going for a run, I carry it with me, even when there may be drinking fountains or whatnot. If it's a race, the only time I don't carry it is a 5k. Mine has holsters you can take on and off, so I may just carry one bottle (8 oz) instead of 4, but I usually carry water. I would rather carry it and not need it than need it and not have it!

  37. Great photos!! I carry my bottle/s for anything over 8 miles. I think it was all the hupla about the R & R Vegas that made me decide that I really wanted to know what I was drinking! I think it's a pain, but worth it. I haven't tried a belt yet....

  38. Those are definitely pretty good pics! I always take my fuel belt with me regardless of the distance, I am used to it and I get to skip most water stations. I just use the water stations to refill my bottles when needed, I like having small sips of water when I need it and not wonder when the next one is.

  39. You are so awesome! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Ive never brought to a race but carry on any training run over 5.

  40. Those are GREAT race photos! Lucky, pretty lady! I like having my own water for longer races and when it's hot.

  41. Your mileage is amazing! Loving the race outfit too - I don't have cute running gear, just gear. Will have to check out running skirts! I don't tend to take hydration, but I will often pick up a water bottle from a water station and carry it with me (I hate how wasteful the water stations can be - everyone takes one or two mouthfuls then throw the bottle on the floor).

  42. Girl you look STRONG!!!

And you are just killlling your marathon training, you are going to do so well!!

  43. You look great in all of those photos! What's your secret for great race photos? Please share! Hmm you like your fuel belt.. I might have to try one of those out now. I usually have my handheld, or nothing because the path I run on has ample fountains. Congrats on the super mileage!
