Unexpected winter run.

Woke up yesterday to a very white world.  I should not have been completely surprised since it was snowing when I got home from work on Friday although by the time we went to bed all the snow had melted and it was raining.
Those two really flat bushes are my lilac bushes, luckily once the snow was shook off they perked up as did all of our young trees.

It has been dry here so it was easy to not complain about the rain, but snow..I have been over snow since February.  This is Montana though and I have seen it snow every month of the year except July so I it really isn't unusual.

It did make me a little cranky in the morning.  I didn't want to run in the snow and be cold.
After an hour spent helping my son clean and organize the mess that is his room I was hot and itching for a run.

The world I went out into was a little chilly, but I was perfectly dressed and found I LOVED the run.  It made me miss winter running.  There was very little wind and lots of fog. The picture below show how foggy it was, you can barely see the antelope staring back at me.

The flowers were so pretty all green and purple in the snow.
and the yucca about to bloom
I ended up being so glad I went for a run (as always), it was a wonderful difference to the hot hot run I had Monday last week. I think I much prefer a 40 degree run to a 70 degree run.

I went early enough that the mud wasn't too bad on the road either, later when it warmed up some more the gravel roads got pretty sloppy.

Other than cleaning my son's room, making breakfast and going for a run I don't think I did anything productive yesterday.  My husband even took us out to eat and then we took the kids to Cabelas to walk around and look at all the animals on display.

There was no snow this morning when I got up, but it was misting rain.  It is such a happy feeling on your face to run in.  Tomorrow I think the sun is supposed to come out and I am looking forward to that!  Three days of clouds and rain is about enough! I am ready for a little sunshine and putting my running skirt back on.

  1. Snow at the end of May?! That is pretty special - even in the UK we don't get that (except the wild parts of Scotland). We're experiencing a heat wave after four weeks of cold and wet weather. Very odd. You're taking the weather in your stride though. And I love the antelope picture!!!

  4. I'd give just about anything to get to run in snow right now! It's 92 effing degrees here today with high humidity. Perfect for laying out and swimming. Not so perfect for running! haha

  5. I love these freak summer snow storms. We get them in Calgary too. I know it isn't fun when planning outdoor events, but your pictures are gorgeous!

  6. I am jealous! It is already so hot here--I'd take a good snowy run over a hot moisture-sucking one any day. Plus, we've already started to have issues with wildfires--the only thing I really dislike about living in the West. I hope I can come run in your area someday!

  7. Holy moly! Snow???? It's muggy and disgusting here, but I'm not sure I want to trade it for a snow storm :)

  8. Wow oh my snow! Where do you live? I've been thinking about snowy days in the heat lately. As gorgous as this weather is, I miss those cool days where I'm not dying of heat. Glad to hear your lilac tree is okay...they are my favorite flower. :)

  10. I'm more in shock about the pronghorn! I'd love to see one more than snow in May :) You also jinxed yourself. You're now going to have snow in July (but by saying that I may have opposite jinxed it...not really sure how that works... :) )

  14. Now that is nuts. I have been whining about it being 95 degrees where I'm at, but I think I'd prefer the heat instead of snow.

  15. Okay, I won't complain about the cold weather in Colorado anymore. I know we need the moisture but snow right now would just push me over the edge. I want warm summer weather!

  23. I miss those spring, um, summer snows that are beautiful for a day but gone the next morning. I think it is the perfect kind of snow day to have. One day long. :-)
Oh lilac bushes, how I miss you. Please take a picture of them and bottle the smell to send to AZ. People here have know idea what they are missing. Lilacs are my favorite.

  24. Nice! It is still May and we got snow in June last year! I think the most places around here need the water too! I love that you went to Cabelas to see the animals. We do that. And try on the silly fur hats, ride the ferris wheel and play the kick the soccer ball game. Do they have that at your Cabelas?

  25. It does look pretty but this would make me so grouchy!!!

  26. That is so crazy! Good for you for getting out in it! I would have snuggled up in my bed and never gotten out if I saw snow in May:) My kids love to go to Cabelas to see the animals. They just built a new one about 45 minutes away from us. Before, the closest one was about 3 hours away so we didn't go very often.

  27. That's crazy, but also beautiful! As you know, I live in Wisconsin. And we have our fair share of snow and cold weather. (It's 50 here today and I LOVE IT!) That said, I don't like running in the snow. Just not my thing (as I'm not coordinated enough to not slip and fall!)
