NOT NOW!

Some days I feel like I have all these great ideas for blog posts and then I sit down to write one and I can't think of anything to write.  Boo.

It is hot and dry here in Montana as is most of the west apparently as Colorado and Utah have some bad sounding wildfires going on, as well as Arizona, Wyoming, North Carolina, and New Mexico.  I learned a couple years ago about InciWeb which is a great tool for tracking wildfires. It shows perimeter maps, the latest news releases, contact info among other things.

I guess I mention it now since my husband just went to check out a fire call.  He is on our local volunteer fire department. Which pretty much if you live here you are volunteered.

I am sitting here watching the smoke on the horizon and hate the helpless feeling of not knowing what is going on, but I hate to bother him on the phone very much either if he is on the fire line.  It looks like a small fire so hopefully he will be home soon.

I got up early this morning and did a 6.5 mile run. I wanted to do seven but I was running a little late to get my Bountiful Basket.  I had to pick it up at 7 am.   Big score as there were cherries in it!

I feel like I have a chest cold coming on.

Really. This is what I feel like right now.  (Side note.  If I look really weird in this photo it is because I used PicMonkey and tried out the erase wrinkles, airbrushing, add mascara, blush, teeth whiten and eye brighten special effects, it hardly even looks like me anymore! Strangely it makes me head look like it was cut and pasted on also.)

14 days before my first marathon and I have felt for the last two days that I have something trying to settle into my chest and make itself at home.  I am NOT happy about this development and am throwing everything I have at it.  This is not the time to be getting a cold.

Not that I have ever had much say in when I get a cold.  I got a horrible one when I was 38 weeks pregnant with my daughter.  My whole family was sick and I coughed so much Avery decided she better get out and she was born ten days early.

As a side note, I came across this picture and had to share.
EWWW!

  3. Nice tongue.

About the cold: maybe try the weird recipe of slathering the bottom of your feet with Vix, donning cotton socks and going to bed.

Also, the last time I felt a sinus/cold thing coming on (and I used to get wicked ones), I tried acupuncture. worked.

  4. Tongue = gross. Hope you feel better soon. I think we all get these weird icky feelings just before marathon race day. It will subside when you stand on the start line :).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the entire state of Colorado is on fire. Every night I sit and watch the orange glow as the sun sets...pretty, but it means fire in the air. No good.

  7. There you go ... you have a cold but it could be worse, you could have black, hairy tongue!
The fires out here in CO are really bad. New ones cropping up all the time and our worst has passed 80,000 acres. It is hot (100+ for 4 days, 90s for the rest of the week) and no rain in sight.
Not good. Hope all is well out there.

  10. Lets hope its phantom pains kicking in!! Good luck....and yes, the fires are very sad. Westerns Nebraska is dry also, and we have had 3 lightening storms in the past 2 weeks, no rain, and all 3 resulted in a small bale fire (which was only small because when its this dry, like you said, living where we live, everyone is a volunteer fireman and on fire watch).

  12. That is by far the grossest picture I've ever seen. I think I need to go brush my teeth again.

I hope the cold isn't a nasty one and it's gone soon!

  15. OMG, that's disgusting. What on earth led you to even look up that image?????

I hope the fires stay away and that everyone is safe. Take care of the gunk in your chest, too.

  16. Hope you aren't getting sick and keeping my fingers crossed that the fire was easily controlled.

That is really nasty! I'm afraid to even ask what caused that stuff on the tongue.

  17. Maybe the smokiness is affecting your respiratory tract and that's why you feel yucky? Or maybe your system is tired from the marathon training and the taper will be just what the doctor ordered? In any event, I hope the yuck doesn't settle in and take hold. We have this stuff called yin chiao that is a chinese herb formula...totally helps nip stuff like that in the bud. Maybe there is a health food type store near you? And that vicks on your feet thing totally works...you can even sub vaseline or slather lotion on your feet.

    Thinking of you!

  21. That is very cool that your husband volunteers for the fire department. The fires have been really bad in UT. My parents were evacuated from there home all weekend but luckily were let back in yesterday. We are praying for the best and hoping the winds/heat will ease a bit in the next few days.
