Cola :(

I got a call from my husband while I was at work yesterday.  He told me Cola got hit by a truck while they were out moving the horses around.  He didn't see what happened, but I do know that Cola isn't very careful about getting in front of moving vehicles and when I am out running with him I have to really watch him when a car or truck comes along.

Good news is Cola survived the accident.

Bad news is that Cola is pretty banged up and super stiff.  He managed to run half a mile back to the house and is able to go under fences and climb stairs but is in  a lot of pain.

We got some pain medicine and antibiotics from the vet to help him.
I am glad I am home from work today so I can take care of him and make sure he is eating and drinking all right.

I am pretty sad for my little running buddy and wonder if we will ever do 20 mile runs again together or if this will leave him to stiff to run that far again comfortably and happily.

He is only 2 so he does have youth on his side.  I think Rocky feels bad for him too since I found Rocky snuggled up to him, of course by the time I grabbed my camera Rocky was done snuggling.

  12. Aw, poor little guy! He's so cute and has such good energy, the perfect dog for you. Having youth on his side is huge. Just make sure he rests--like any runner, he'll probably try to get back out there too soon unless you stop him. :^)

  25. Poor Cola! :( This has NOT been his month! When I saw the title and read the first couple of lines, I immediately thought the worst, so I was super relieved to see that wasn't the case.

I hope he will have a new respect for traffic now. God help mine if they ever get out of the house unleashed. They've been house dogs all their lives, so they have NO respect for a car. Even when we walk with a leash in town, they are constantly trying to jump off the sidewalk into the road. :(

Give Cola a special chin scratch from me today. <3

  27. Poor Cola!!! I feel so awful for the little guy. I hope that he is able to make a full recovery so that you can have your running partner back. I know that he loves running with you and he would probably be upset if he had to stay home. I am glad that Rocky is taking good care of him and that you have the day off to make sure that he is doing okay. Give him a hug from me and Tia & Maisy in Spokane.
