Three for Thursday

1. Coffee and laptops aren't really a good combination. Just as I was sitting down to write this post this morning Rocky managed to trip me with my very full coffee cup.. I unplugged it and tried to turn it off but I have to admit it was a minute or so before I thought to pull the battery. I have it drying now and my fingers are crossed. such a bummer first thing in the morning. I hope it is not an indicator of how my day is going to go.

I tried to take it apart and couldn't find the right size screw driver. A big tool box full of tools and I don't have the right one.. I am hoping I can find my warranty information and that this would be covered under it...

2. My back is starting to feel a lot better but still seems a little grouchy especially at the end of the day so I am scaling back my half marathon training plans. At this point I still have every intention of doing a March half marathon, but it may not be a PR attempt. I was supposed to start speed work last week and at this point don't think I will start it next week either, so hopefully in January,

I don't want to push it too hard and then not have a racing season at all! I was running up to 10 miles prior to my back starting to hurt two weeks ago so I am not worried about getting up to the distance at this point.

3. Not sure how but so far I have managed to avoid the crud that everyone else in my family has been suffering through. I have a bit of a stuffy nose but that is all so far. My poor husband has had it pretty bad the last two days. He always seems to get it worse than I do. My theory with that is I have my tonsils to catch the cruddy stuff and he doesn't. His first symptom always seems to be a scratchy throat and I almost never have that. Coincidence?

With as many kids that roll through our surgery center getting tonsils out I am always surprised when anyone has them although both of my kids still have theirs. I know sometimes they do need to come out, but if my theory is right I hope they get to keep theirs.

Do you have your tonsils?
Ever spilled coffee on your laptop? A full cup?

  1. I spilled multiple cups of tea on my laptop at my old job. Somehow it managed to survive every time.

I still have all of my body parts except my wisdom teeth :)

  2. Oh--I always worry when liquids are near my laptop and figure my number will come up soon. I hope your computer survives intact.

We have a full house of tonsils here!

  3. I had both tonsils and adnoids removed as a kid because of chronic ear infections. All kiddos have tonsils, but one had her adnoids removed. The ENT doc said it was the largest set of adnoids he had ever seen! She was 3. lol. Strangely, her snoring went away. Go figure.

  4. I've never had my tonsils out. No one in my family has. I didn't know they still remove them.

  5. Still have my tonsils, one of my brothers had them removed, but my sister and other brother kept theirs as well.

I have spilled hot chocolate on my keyboard, but no lasting damage.

Hope your back starts feeling better soon!

  7. I hope your computer is OK, and your back! I spilt coffee on my laptop once and luckily it had a seal under the keyboard to protect the important bits in case of such incidents!

  8. Oh, I really hope that your laptop is okay!

I think you're taking a smart approach to training. Back pain is the worse and it can have an impact on so many aspects of quality of life. I hope you're back to 100% soon!

I still have my tonsils. Our family doctor recommended their removal when I was a kid since I had so many problems with sore throats - tonsilitis and strep throat. But we didn't have health insurance so my parents opted not to have me undergo the surgery.

  9. I had my tonsils out when I was in 4th grade. My two sisters and I had them out at the same time!!! That was back in the day when we would stay for a couple of days in the hospital. We had a big ol' slumber party!!! Not many kids in my class have had them out, but right now they all seem to have strep throat. I have been lucky - never had strep throat since I was a kid!!!

  10. You know, I do still have my tonsils... when I was a kid I got throat and tonsil infections all the time and chickened out twice, of having them removed.

Since I moved to B.C. as an adult, I have never (knock on wood) had tonsil infection, and since I quit smoking about 20 + years ago, I have rarely had a cold and not a chest infection ONCE.

I do think your tonsils are protecting your lungs! But hope you don't get it anyway.

  12. Interesting theory. We all still have our tonsils, around here, too. All my guys have been sick this past week & I seem to have avoided the brunt of it, also. Lets chalk it up to running. :)

    Hope your laptop survives!!

  15. We are all tonsilled up in this house ;-)
I don't remember if you said how you hurt your back or if it just started hurting but I have some advice.
I had an issue with my low back and it was cause by my tight hamstrings. Lots of rolling, stretching and a good massage really helped. Just a thought. Hope it heals up quick.
