Three Things Thursday: Not running, What's Beautiful and kids

1. Let's see what have I been up to...still not running, but surprisingly I have reached some sort of acceptance on that.  I have come to realize the big picture shows that if I rest now I will be running happier sooner.  Trying to push it early was only stagnating and or reversing any healing.  A little frustrating that it happened now when it is so AWESOMELY nice out for running and not when it was wintry cold or later this summer when it is awfully hot.  In the end it is what it is. Truth be told it is kind of nice to take a break from it.  I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself to get the runs in, it can be a lot of work finding a babysitter, getting there, etc.

Not that I will be whining when my leg is ready to run again.

I haven't charged my Garmin or my iPod in over two weeks.  I don't plan to for at least another week.  and maybe even longer as I get back into running.  I don't want to put any pressure on myself to run a certain pace.

2. This week seems to have been crazy busy so far and I haven't been able to update my What's Beautiful page, but I plan to work on that today.  So far I have done 20 of the challenges.  One challenge I have been taking on weekly is the pushup challenge.  I did it this week too, but didn't get it on video.  Last week I did 30 pushups in a row and this week..35.  I love progress.  That's beautiful.

3.  Tomorrow is the last day of kindergarten for my little cowboy.  That went so fast!  I am so proud of him.  He has learned so much and I love all the great things his teacher has had to say about what a nice and polite boy he is.  Makes me feel like I am doing something right.

Hard to believe my little cowgirl will be going to kindergarten in three months.

  1. Congrats to your kindergarten grad! :) I completely understand the acceptance thing with not running. May you be back at it MUCH more quickly than my lame self!

  3. Mike and I were having this conversation yesterday about how it stinks that we are injured now (he has tendonitis in his achilles) when it's so glorious out and all we want to do is run. It's like a mean joke.

  4. I've been a little lacking in reading my fav blogs lately. Sorry to hear that you're out of commission for running, but you are so right. My running buddy has been suffering from achilles tendonitis and just starting slowly to come back. I myself have had several "time outs" and it is hard to accept that taking a break is the best thing for you.

Hang in there. You will come back strong and ready to go!

  5. Big changes, one finishing and one starting kindergarten...exciting, but hard too I'm sure.

Glad you have come to some kind of acceptance on your running. I can't say I've done the same with my wrist. I feel like someone stole something from me. It's finally gorgeous weather and I should be biking and swimming...and getting prepared for my first tri. I'm hoping my MRI will maybe give me that peace...at least I'll know something for sure.

Hope you are able to run again soon!

  6. You are so smart to rest! Not doing so is exactly how we get into trouble and end up with long layoffs. And your attitude is great.

Time goes so fast with kids--the milestones just fly by!

  7. Great job on the push up challenge! I have been a slacker lately with the UA stuff. I have been sick and basically haven't done anything in 4 days. I feel like a slug! Congrats to your son! So exciting!

  8. Congrats to your son! I bet he is looking forward to summer now.
It sounds like even if you can't run you really are making the best out of it. 20 challenges is awesome! I hope that this next week goes by fast...are you planning on training a short/easy run next week?

  11. you progressed 5 push ups in a week...oh man I need to get on this, I am still working on my push ups.

I took a week of running for the first time in ages and it's helped me do better with recovery days now, which shocked the heck out of me

  12. I agree that forced rest is kind of nice. The rest part -- not the not running. And, dang, on the push-ups! I need to work on this!

  18. Great progress on the push ups! That is one area that I could use a lot of work on.

Sorry about you being out for so long. Take it easy as you come back into it. I hope your leg feels much better soon!

  19. Aw that's great, I seriously love so much when kids are polite and have nice manners, I think it makes such a big difference in how they are perceived. It's more and more rare these days so kudos to you for teaching your son those skills! And it sounds like you have the right attitude on not running - it majorly sucks, but it does give you some extra time for all that other stuff in life (and a break from some hassles!).
