Monday Motivation

Getting out of bed early in the morning can be hard.  Who wants to leave a nice warm snugly bed go to outside?  This time of year is my favorite for getting out early and running.  It feels even more motivating right now since I haven't been able to run much lately due to a quad strain.
It was pretty dark when I first got out this morning.

Usually I try to time my run so that I am running towards the sunrise when it comes up, but this morning I just ran towards it to start with even though I knew it probably meant I would be facing away from the sun when it started to peek above the horizon.

I find running into the morning sky so energizing. I love watching the colors of the sky change as sunrise comes closer and closer.  The start of a new day.  Fresh. A whole day in front of me to accomplish the things I want to do and one thing is already checked off.    Run...done.
Of course I also took some time to enjoy the super moon.

My favorite first song to listen to on a pre dawn run is Hello World by Lady Antebellum.  I find it relaxing and energizing at the same time.

What is your favorite time of day to run?
What is your favorite kind of early morning run song?

  1. I love running early in the morning, but I hate getting out of bed more than I love it, so it rarely happens.

My absolute favorite morning run was during this past winter when kids got out of school for a snow day and I took Bungee for a 10 miler in the snow. The roads were deserted and it was so peaceful and beautiful out.

  2. I love the mornings, but like you I have a terrible time getting out of bed in the morning. That is kind of why I like having a running partner it keeps me accountable, otherwise I would probably wouldnt work out so early in the morning.

  3. I love morning runs and I too love to watch the sunrise! A lot of wildlife out at that time. Today I saw a couple of deer and a turkey. I love the song "Good Morning, Beautiful!"

  4. I prefer running in the morning right after I drop my son off at school. But, I don't wake up early to run. Tried and failed;)

  9. Great pictures! I'm a big fan of morning runs - even more so in the summer when an early run doesn't required a headlamp. :)

  10. Those photos are beautiful! I'd probably run early to catch the sunrise if I lived in such a beautiful tranquil place like you :) Instead, I run in the afternoons after work when it is hot and the path is crowded. So happy you're back to running again!!!

  11. Love the pics!
I wish I could be a morning runner, but the getting up early thing is tough for me. Right now I run after work, but because of the heat I might have to become a morning girl!

  13. I'm an early morning runner as well. I generally go out right after sunrise, and it's usually the perfect time of day. Too many nighttime creepy crawlies (bats, snakes, etc) at night for this girl.

I don't know that I have a favorite early morning running song. Maybe "Let's Go" by Pitbull and Trick Daddy. That gets me up and going.

  14. The sunsets in MT are always so beautiful. They look huge for some reason. Hope I get a good sunset in Missoula next month.

  15. I agree with you totally! Even though I'm not marathon training, I love being up and out for the sunrise. These super long days are the best!
