Three Things Thursday

1. My co workers warned me yesterday that I was setting myself up to be mauled when I wrote that it was National Go Hug a Runner Day on the schedule at work.  I did get a lot of great hugs.  Love my co workers.

2. Speaking of my co workers, sounds like more and more of them are coming around to my way of thinking.  I got a friend hooked on Zuzka Lights first set of workout DVDs Power Cardio, now she is talking about running her first 5k next summer.  um... YAY!

Sounds like another girl I work with is thinking about ordering Zuzka's DVDs and going with the Power Strength Series then we can trade around.  and yet another girl is hooked on doing her ZWOWs from Zuzkalight.com.  While you have to pay to get the newest workouts the first 70 or so are free. and unlike Bodyrock.TV's mile long list of equipment, Zuzka keeps it simple.

You would think they pay me for this, but no, I just love Zuzka and her workouts.  I have been a happy follower of hers for over three years now and while I make up my own workouts a lot, I still look forward to new ones from her and go back and do old favorites.  I think they really helped my running and I am happy to see more and more co workers falling in love with her workouts too.

3. Tuesday was a lovely 54 degrees.  Today when I rolled out of bed it was 1 degree F.  One.  BRRR
I like cold weather running, but that might be pushing it.  Unless the sun comes out this morning and then it is all about the layers.. and no wind chill.    I read someone's blog yesterday where they didn't like to run outside below 40 degrees.  I guess if I had a treadmill I could be pickier, but I really like running on a 20 degree sunny day.

Don't get me wrong I like running on a 45 degree sunny day better, but I think part of the joy of running is getting out and running all four seasons cold, wet, warm, windy,  and even hot.  Although I will admit being a bigger heat wimp than I am a cold wimp.  I don't like to run if it is hotter than 75 out.  I will, but I don't like it.  Hotter than 85 and I may as well just melt.

Are you a bigger heat wimp or cold wimp when it comes to running outside?  I am a heat wimp, give me a cold run any day!

Who is your favorite workout personality to follow?

  1. I am a cold winp. I really really hate being cold. I can take the heat much better, even though it slows me down.

  2. WTF 1 degree? That's a cruel joke. I hate being hugged so much so a day like yesterday is my worst nightmare, LUCKILY no one hugged me. (No adults, anyway). I'm dead inside.

  3. I'm definitely wimpier working out in the heat but I'm a bigger wimp in general in the cold! Ask my husband...I think I utter the words "Oh my word it's freezing!" multiple times a night!! My fav. workout personality is probably Jillian or Dolvett!

  4. I'm also a heat wimp - I'd much rather run in the cold. But I guess I must add that I've never experienced temperatures colder than 21 degrees down here in South Africa, so you're a lot more hard core than me!

  5. Yeah, no, I wouldn't be out there in one degree. I've been wimping out more often than not with the treadmill lately, but I'm blaming that on pregnancy since last year I ran in snow storms without any problem.

If someone tried to hug me randomly, I'd probably freak out.

  6. I'd rather run in the cold (maybe not 1 degree) than in the heat. You can dress appropriately for the cold, if its too hot forget it you just have to suck it up and deal with it. I will run in almost any type of weather, but the heat & humidity just sucks the life out of me.

I loved following Bodyrock when Zuzka was a part of it. I stopped loving her workouts as much when she went on her own, although I still have done some of them. I do some of the workouts on the new Bodyrock website (dailyhiit), but I just don't like it as much either. I go back and do old ones and make up my own workouts a lot. I like changing things up a lot so I don't get bored! I also like to do a lot of Crossfit style workouts.

  7. Haha, same here too! Almost 60 yesterday, I wake up today to 14 degrees and 3" of snow...but of course, I LOVE IT! :)

  8. I am definitely a heat wimp. 20 sounds pretty divine to me as long as there's not much wind or ice. There's a certain peacefulness about it that I love. Like the world is all mine. I start to whine when it approaches 65.

  9. I am a cold wimp (since I think it is me you are talking about above) ;) It rarely gets below 30 here in WA so I am not used to being in that temp. It was 38 yesterday and I thought my face was going to freeze! Glad your co-workers are getting on the fitness train:)

  10. If I didn't want to run when it was under 40 then I wouldn't be able to run outside most of the year around here! I don't mind the cold. It's all about layers and the right gear. I always get warm 1-2 miles in no matter what the temp is anyways!

  11. 1 degree! Yikes! Cool temps and sunshine can be lots of fun to run in, I agree.

I guess I follow Hilaria Baldwin's yoga DVDs on YouTube. I haven't seen many new ones lately, but I do like what she has out there and try to mix it up.

  13. I would probably say I prefer cold to heat....but there is a point where heat might still win. 1 degree...now that is cold. We are supposed to hit 10 this weekend, and I'm just not ready for it yet. I haven't seen Zuzka...gonna check it out!

  14. It is funny because I was born and raise in the Caribbean BUT I love the cold weather especially for running. And if its snowing outside, even better. I love that your co-workers are coming around. It sounds like you are being a great influence on them!

  15. YOW!!! What a switch in the weather! We just got our first frost last night, so I can imagine things will be in layers from here on out to April.

Glad you got your share of hugs, Christy! :D

  16. It is summer where running is a problem here - although it doesn't get hot (never over 30Celsius) it does get 95% humidity which makes me run like a zombie. It is then that I will dream of your 20F sunny day!

  17. I've had to change my weather ways this year - we relocated to Oahu and it is warm or hot and humid every morning! I think it was 72 when I went out this morning. I grew up in California, so I've never run in anything colder than about 30, but the warmer stuff has taken some getting use to! But my body has proven to be very adaptable.

  18. Ugh- it won't stop snowing here! It isn't sticking, just very cold and very wet!

  19. Ugh. I'm with you, I like running in the cold.....but 1 degree? That makes it WAY to easy to stay in my nice warm bed.

  20. I'm a heat wimp too, anything over 70 just makes me cringe. I really enjoy getting what sunlight I can in the winter since we are all stuck inside so much then. I feel like I've broken out of the crazy box when I do!

  21. It was 5 F when I ran this morning.

  22. I'm definitely a cold wimp! Give me a hot, humid run over a cold, dry one any day of the week! The dry weather is a bummer for asthmatics and there is not one single good thing about winter!

  23. I'm a heat wimp which is funny since I live where it is the same temp as the sun most of the time ;-) The heat kills me. But just like you I will run in it anyway. Running in the heat trumps not running any day.

  24. I would SO much rather run in the heat!
