I found that it helped but on race day I am much faster. I usually focus on people to pick off and you can't really do that on your own. ;)<br /><br />Cooking is a chore for me. I don't have any kids yet so that may change as time goes on. In college I noticed that sometimes girls would kill workouts, but them bomb races and some girls wouldn't look so impressive at practice, but could go be top 10 at nationals... Part of that is just that running is so mental and another part is that I think a lot of people good too hard in their training and fatigue their muscles to the point that they can't recover by race day... I'd say just keep doing what you're doing. So I wouldn't worry about you not doing tempo runs, seems like you do speed work, which is almost the same theory as tempo runs to me.
