I am starting to get so excited for my next race next weekend. The Governor's Cup Half Marathon! My goal for it is to run it with a sub 1:40 time. I am fairly confident that I can do this for several reasons 1. I ran a 1:40:56 in the heat on a hilly course in July and felt awesome. 2. It will be cooler for this race and it is a flat with some downhill and only one slight incline. At the same time I am a little worried about hitting my goal because 1. What if I have an off day where I can't seem to find my breathing and rhythm 2. I don't feel like my training has been as consistent due to weather, and life happening. 3. I am human.
All the same I am very excited. I haven't entirely ruled out a 5k this Saturday. I haven't done one in a while and I really love the distance. It is a flat course and would feel good to just stretch the legs out and fly. I would love to get a PR in the 5k before racing season in Montana shuts down for the winter (big big sad face here) I am for sure going to do a 5k the weekend AFTER the half marathon. I did that last year and nearly PRd on a super hilly course and felt fabulous. I am just having a really hard time passing up the race this weekend knowing racing season is coming to an end and I love racing so much.
Any sage words of wisdom here? Would I be ruining my half marathon if I kick it in for a 5k Saturday? The half marathon isn't until the next Sunday so I would have 7 whole days in between to recover. The half does take priority and no I would not be able to take it easy on the 5k. I just couldn't. I am too competitive like that :)
