Flashback!

Flashback!  Okay it was only from 6 1/2 years ago, but my little sister emailed me this picture yesterday.  Makes me miss so many things!

Like the long hair I cut off in April.  Why did I think I would like short hair better?  (okay sometimes I do like it better, except when I am trying to fix it, I have no idea what to do with it, ugh) This picture was taken in Verona on a 10 day tour through Italy.  This day was BEAUTIFUL.  My high school friend Josh was living in Verona at the time and cooked us lunch.  Right here was the appetizer, olives, prociutto and wine.  Pretty sure judging by that smile it was not my first glass of wine. :)

My little sister is getting ready to run her 2nd half marathon in a couple weeks.  In December she will be home for the first time in about a year and a half. I am so excited to see her and her family! I don't know what I would do without my sisters.  I am so glad/lucky my oldest sister  and little brother live so close to me.
Somewhere else in Italia with more vino and long hair.
I had long hair for ten years.  The only time I don't miss it now is when I comb my hair.  I feel like I never have any tangles now.  Amazing!

I think about how carefree I was here.  I had been dating Rance for two months and my lil sis had been dating her future husband for a month.  Now we are both married with two kids.  As much as I loved those carefree days I wouldn't trade them for my life now which can be crazy, hectic and stressful, but it is also crazy, full of fun, and amazing to be a mother to two and wife to a wonderful husband.   I love being loved.  :)

I went for a four mile run yesterday and my legs just felt tired.  Then I realized I had run nearly 30 miles last week when for the last four weeks I have averaged closer to 20 miles a week.  No wonder my legs were protesting.  Running has just felt so good lately!  I just want to run and run and run.  Now that I am in a sort of off season my goals mainly are to maintain and work on problem areas like stretching and my hammies! I feel a little aimless in my running, for now it is nice but soon I will have to develop some sort of a game plan to keep me motivated through the long winter.

  1. I always grow my hair out and then chop it off on a whim... then instantly regret it :). My hair does NOT look cute short- but yours does!
It's fun to look back on life before marriage and kids. It doesn't mean we would ever want to go back- it's just fun to remember.

  2. Such beautiful pictures. Memories are wonderful aren't they!! I agree the love of families are wonderful also and we can make new memories.

Good for you with your running. It is now cooling off here so now I can get out and run. Just waiting for the rain to stop.:)

  3. Your pictures here are making me wish I could book another trip to Italy right now! Hopefully, I'll get to spend a few weeks back in my beloved Madrid this summer, though. We'll see.

After essentially a year of almost always being in training for something or about to start training for something, it feels weird to not have any running goals right now. I guess I have one: get injury-free and slowly rebuild my base.

  5. I've been battling the lazy lately! Between being off season and not having any upcoming races and the weather temps dropping, it is getting tough. I just keep reminding myself that I really want to do my first HIM next summer and that it won't be easy--I'll need all the preparation I can get! Usually gets me moving :)

  7. You have great hair, either length! Italy looks wonderful--it is definitely on my bucket list. And isn't it nice to say you are happy with life today and not mourn days of old? A good place to be in.

  8. Love the flashback so fun! Honestly though you look the exact same. Wow do you age well and your body is still so rocking. Seriously Christy I admire you and your hard bod so much!

I am starting my off season as well and have found that just running to run and not going out with a distance/pace in mind has really helped. In fact I am kind of loving it. :)

  9. Love all the photos!!

I cut my hair off....like 10 inches of it....almost a year ago. I've loved it so far, but lately i've been wanting to grow it back out. Who knows!

  11. I'm a new runner who's struggling with some of the same isues - I'm really tired from being more active than usual and I need to keep boosting my motivation! :)

I'm loving your blog and I'm sure it'll help motivate me to get out running more and for longer...

  12. I LOVE your hair, short or long. I am a "near-miss" redhead, so I get chemical help to get red highlights every so often.

I went to Italy for a wedding in 2006 when I was newly pregnant, so I had morning sickness the whole time and could eat only gelato and (for some reason) linguini with clam sauce. At least those two things were always excellent over there! I want to go back sometime and do it right, like you did.

  13. I always think I want to cut my hair short, and then regret it when I do! But you look great either way. :)
Once my race is over in 4 weeks, I'm not sure how I'm going to keep motivated. :P

  15. What great memories!
Your hair was beautiful long too! Mine is long now, but I have gone through periods where I am so tempted to chop it off...it can be way too high maintenance!
Off season I have to set different goals, like strengthen my hams, or quads, or work on short distance speed...I can ALWAYS find something I need to work on!;)

  16. About 7 years ago, I started growing my hair out... in 2007 my hair down to my butt... to the point that, when I would put pants on (especially PJ or workout pants), I'd have to lift my hair up because I'd catch my hair in the waistband.

Then I chopped it all off and now it is the longest it's been since then (roughly shoulder length... it's been this long twice now)... but I do want to seriously grow it out... I miss having my super long hair. Even if it was a total pain, lol

  22. I love your hair long! I like to keep my hair long but then I end up cutting it so I can donate it and then complaining while I wait for it to grow back out.

I'm very jealous of the trip to Italy! I bet you guys had a blast!
