You are only one run away from a good mood. and a winner!

You are only one run away from a good mood. So true.  I feel like I am one good run away from a good mood.   I am CRAVING a run like a crack addict deprived.  I see open roads and I can almost feel me running down them.  I see my running shoes and I want to hug them to me as if I could absorb some endorphins from them somehow.

It has been 36 days since the last time I went for a "real" run.  9 miles, lots of hills, sweating, loving it.  36 days.  It was also the run that tipped the scales and pushed my leg over the edge.  Not so smart. I knew that day, my leg had a niggle.  I knew I should probably take it easy, but I craved a good run.

36 days since I had to give up running forever.  Cold turkey.

All right maybe that was a bit dramatic, but 36 days of no real running feels a bit like forever especially when I really thought if I gave it two weeks I would be better.  I may have to break down and go to PT or something.  I really didn't think it was going to take this long to get better.

Miss Zippy shared this article on Facebook this morning that confirmed what I was guessing.  I  at this point am in the 19% loss of my VO2 max and am losing significant muscle power.   Hard not to be a little depressed about that...

If that isn't motivation for getting this problem taken care of I don't know what is.  Anyone have an extra quad I can transplant to my right leg?

Quad strain doesn't seem to be a super common runner problem.  In fact I saw somewhere it is less than 1% of all runner injuries every year. It is hard to find very much on it.  I found a guide to runner injuries and it wasn't on the list.  Although there is another blogger with the same problem, so nice to know I am not alone.

I am going to air up my bike tires and take it for a super easy spin this morning.  Hopefully I can at least do that.  I hate this not running shit, but I am going to suck it up and pretend I like other things too.

and the winner of the Paleo book is....

Jen from Running with the Girls shoot me an email at bugs2001rn at yahoo dot com with your address and I will get that sent to you this week.

  1. Yay Jen! That sucks about running. I hope that your quad heals soon...

  2. Ok, so we're back at a stalemate.
I'm torturing myself lately- a new sparkle skirt came today that I ordered last week, and I feel like I'm 95% better, which makes it soooo hard not to at least try jogging down the driveway! UGH. 23 more days for me. At least I can resume yoga.
Here's hoping you get this figured out sooner than later.... I'd hate to win :)
( I read that same article on loss of fitness this morning, too!)

  3. I know how you feel. Hang in there. You are doing the right thing. I know it REALLY SUCKS!

  4. You'll be running again before you know it. Enjoy the ride...enjoy the scenery...just have fun :)

  5. I know you are CHOMPING at the bit! And I hate that for you. I keep hoping you'll magically heal up SUPER FAST overnight and be back on the road soon. FINGERS CROSSED!

  6. Enjoy the bike ride! That's a nice alternative to not's definitely my choice too! Hope you are back at it again soon!

  7. Cycling definitely doesn't replace the awesomeness that can only be obtained from running, but it can help you a lot :) after I strained my hip flexor last year I didnt run for months and made it a point to cycle over 10 miles a day everyday for a month. I ended up not losing too much fitness from the injury. I feel your pain with having to quit running cold turkey, but rest assured you'll be better off letting it heal 100% than rushing it. Enjoy your ride!

  8. SOrry to hear about the running, friend :( I remember what it was like in December to not be able to do ANYTHING and it's always feel like you want it more when you can't have it!

  9. Muscle healing can be so tricky. I'm sorry you've been benched for so long. I hope you get a recovery breakthrough soon!

  10. I'm sure your fitness will return quickly once you get back into it. I think it would be good to visit a PT (who runs) - they can pick up muscle imbalances we don't know we have!
    Hang in there!

  11. I know the feeling. I was out pretty much all of Feb and Mar with an achilles injury. I actually didn't lose all that much aerobic capacity, but am it's definitely taking time to get some strength back. It was a good kick in the butt for me though and a reminder of some little things I need to be keeping up with. Best of luck and just give it some time.

  12. I've been out of the loop for a bit- so sorry that the quad is still causing you problems! I seem to get some sort of injury every year and not being able to run just plain sucks. I'll send some nice, healing vibes your way :).

  13. Well, darn it--didn't post it to get you down! I was more trying to encourage people to back off a few days when that impending injury is there. I'm so sorry you are still out. You WILL get back, I promise!

  14. I know the feeling, last year I had to stop running for about 6 weeks and it was hard. I focused on getting stronger and doing the exercises my PT gave me. I was finally able to start running but only 1 minute to 5 minutes walking. Let me tell you one minute would go by too fast! Hopefully you have the feeling soon.

  15. It really does suck not running and really really wanting to! Hopefully you get to soon! Hang in there!

  16. I have a different injury but I am with you
You are not alone in this dark hole
    I hate it too
    Today I had pain depressing
    We will get through this
    We will

Because I love hearing from you all!
